Atlanta, Ga. – A man has several fractures and a lacerated liver after police said he was run over several times by a driver in southwest Atlanta.

Atlanta police said the victim were at some kind of friendly gathering around midnight on Clover Street.  At some point Bush, who a witness said had been drinking, allegedly drove over the victim, who was lying on the road.  Bush backed up and drove over him again before putting the car in reverse.  He then drove over the victim a third time.

Channel 2 Action News was there when firefighters helped lift the car off the victim, who was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police said Bush tried to leave after the incident, but a passenger dragged him out from behind the wheel and held him down.

“The driver was detained by one of the passengers and received minor injuries during that detainment,” said Atlanta Police Lt. Paul Guerruci.

“From the evidence on scene and then from some of the statements we’ve obtained from witnesses, it appears that (Bush’s driving over the victim was an) intentional act,”  Guerruci said.

Bush refused to talk to police when they were taking him into custody.  He has been charged with aggravated assault and may face additional charges once the blood tests return and determine how much alcohol was in his system.
